Here is the story of my life. I make fun of someone or some situation, and then God laughs at me and puts me in that same situation....I SHOULD have learned my lesson by now, but apparently NOT! It all started when I thought it was ridiculous when people met someone and got married in a few weeks. How dumb can you be? Well Riley and I got engaged a mere 5 weeks after our first date. We got married 5 months later....DUMB! I know. But I did it. Then who thinks that getting prego right after you are married is a good idea? Not me! 3 months after we were married we found out we were pregnant with Ava. Then we moved into my parents house for a few months after our lease ended at our apartment and while we were waiting to move to Rexburg. I'm 29 years old, finally just graduated from college, with a Bachelor's degree...not a Masters or PhD...no no. My kids have runny noses and don't always sit perfectly still at church like I was totally sure they would! SO pretty much everything that I have ever said I will NOT do, or will NEVER happen to me has. Why would this pattern end now? God has laughed again, and is sending us to Utah!
Here's the story....
Riley had the job offer in Maryland for the Department of Defense. We were excited for an East Coast adventure. We sold our bed, dressers, desks, table, etc. in preparation for a light trek east. We dreamed and talked of all the fun things we could do, and what trip we would take every weekend. We dreamed of summer weeks spent at the coast as a family, and trips to the DC temple. We were THRILLED!
Because the job required a pretty hefty security clearance, we didn't have a start date or anything and wouldn't until all that went through. What if something happened and we ended up without a job? Not realistic, but could happen...So Riley went down to the Job Fair at BYU in Provo. We were just being extra cautious and careful. We thought we were being so smart, and preparing well for our future.
Riley called me that night on the way home from Provo and said that he had made some really great contacts, and was impressed with this particular company...however, this company was located in OREM, UTAH of all places. We talked a little more, and right when I hung up the phone I couldn't help but cry. I HATE UTAH! No offense to anyone who lives in Utah. I lived there for a year when I was 23, and it was one of the hardest years of my life. I left Utah the day after graduating from Beauty School and never intended to go back....EVER!
Fast forward a year, and I married a guy from Utah...fast forward 6 years and I am now moving to Utah....
At first Riley and I thought no amount of money can make us move to Utah! We were really against the idea, but then as time went on we thought more about the opportunity that it would be and the good things about it. Then they sent Riley and email that said...Oh by the way you get an iPhone4, iPad, MacBook Pro, iMac, and they just went on and on and on.... Its like they knew exactly what would make my husband think twice. They hit the sweetest spot they could have! I read the email first, and just laughed. I told Riley to check the email, he might like what it said. That was it! I knew it was done deal. haha Just kidding. Although Riley is excited for those gadgets, they weren't THAT important...Right, Riley? We were doing what is best for our family....right? :) It is a really great opportunity and Riley will be doing what he loves and getting some great experience. I am getting use to the idea, although it is still surreal. There are many great things about Utah. Erin, my roomy from college lives down there. We can afford a nice house with a garage! It was hard to find garages in Baltimore. (May seem like a stretch for a pro, but I really want a garage!) And if we don't like it, we can move away while our kids are still young and not too scared by the Utah experience. haha!
We are really grateful for this opportunity to be real life adults, instead of just posing as college students our whole lives! So...here we go! Well be moving in 6 weeks!
